I have been mentoring startups for a long time, in parallel, while keep building, re-building, merging, consulting and experiencing, breathing “entrepreneurship” myself in all my ventures to date. I have built three startups and building more, join me 🙂
My first “Startup Never Fail” session was in Nov 2016. The mission is to reduce startup failure from 90% to 50% in next 5 years as I see, there are common mistakes in every startup. I did some of them :). “Every” founder must be supported, that matters to make India a largest startup ecosystem.
I have seen startups shutting down as the founder lost his majority equity in the early days (1 year) and the founder has no motivation to run it as every time they have to take permission.
The effect of “winter funding” is diminishing. The possibility of better deals comes this time to make great startups sustain and become profitable faster.
Indian are more aware of the startup ecosystem with shows like Shark Tank India and Mission Start Ab. There is a relevance of balance between innovation (experiments) and profitability in the startups.
Through this session, I am helping entrepreneurs to be close to the “reality” of the startup ecosystem (even if it is evolving now for the better). I can see this changing:-
1. Scaling models are changing with AI technology and “community based” models.
2. Investors are becoming more open and becoming influencers (ab sab ki YouTube channel hai 🙂 Many investors are happy getting “exits” and 10x ROI. .
3. Good Investors always reply 🙂 Getting “no” from an investor, this time is #faster (and better) rather saying “yes” to waste the time of the founder to kill his “demanded” valuation and eat higher equity % (old investor funda).
4. There are over 10000 angels investors, every investor looks for a “#leadInvestor” to reduce their risks. The challenge is “Who will become the lead”.
5. While resolving the question of how many cofounders?
In every session, I say –
The single Founder is INNOVATION.
Two CoFounders are STARTUP.
Three CoFounders are SCALE.
Four CoFounders are FUNDING.
Five CoFounder are STRUGGLE 🙂
Founder level, the relevance of at least two co-founders is increasing.
6. Founders are more aware of compliances with the boom and busting of unicorns. The day #Government has focused on Statups and regulation has become important now.
7. Startup PRs / Media are becoming cautious with the audit process before writing funding story with “they raise $XXX Millions” using SAAS financial software.
Let’s discuss more!!
Let’s meet in Mumbai, if you are available on 2nd March.
